Westminster Review
(London, United Kingdom)
(31 October 1824 − 31 October 1914)
The journal's founder, Jeremy Bentham, envisioned it as a platform for the "Philosophic Radicals." Sir William Molesworth in the 1830s merged the Westminster Review with the London Review; from 1836 to 1840 it was published as the London and Westminster Review. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries the journal changed owners several times; in 1887 it switched from quarterly to monthly publication, but gradually lost its former influence. In 1846 the Foreign Quarterly Review was merged into it; for a time it was published under a combined title, and from January 1847 as the Westminster and Foreign Quarterly Review, before reverting again to the Westminster Review.
