Alexander Yulyevich de Witte
A cousin of H. P. Blavatsky, son of Y. F. de Witte and K. A. de Witte. A major in the Nizhny Novgorod Dragoon Regiment, he was seriously injured on 2 October 1877 during the Russo-Turkish War. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 1:258)
Note on dates: the note on p. 258 prints both 1846-1877 and a statement that he died in 1884. The editorial name index to V. P. Zhelihovsky’s Radda-Bai gives 1846-1884. The year 1877 concerns his injury; his relative seniority among his brothers is not asserted here. (В.П. Желиховская, «Радда-Бай», редакторский указатель имён) (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 1:258)
