Mabel Collins

(9 September 1851 − 31 March 1927)

(1851–1927)

English Theosophist and novelist, author of Light on the Path and The Idyll of the White Lotus.

English novelist and mystical writer. She was the eldest daughter of Mortimer Collins, the well-known writer, and was born in Guernsey, Channel Islands, September 9, 1851 (BCW 8:424-434).

Author of Light on the Path, published in London in 1885 (BCW 10:416).

Met H. P. Blavatsky in the autumn of 1884, after completing The Idyll of the White Lotus. According to Blavatsky, she first saw Light on the Path in the summer of 1886, when A. Gebhard gave her a copy. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 6:xxxvii-xxxviii,xli)

Was co-editor of Lucifer from its first issue until October 1888. Chapter XXX of her novel The Blossom and the Fruit was signed “Mabel Collins and ——”; B. de Zirkoff considers a contribution by H. P. Blavatsky possible but does not establish its extent. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 8:3, BCW 8:91-93)

Her serious illness led H. P. Blavatsky to announce in October 1888 that she would assume sole editorship of Lucifer. (B. de Zirkoff, BCW 10:xxvi)
